MAYOR’S TROPHY

The Mayor’s Trophy is a netball tournament that has been in existence for a considerably long period of time, but recently it has been revived in all wards.

The netball tournament is sponsored by O.K Zimbabwe and it is aimed at uniting women in all communities and, at the same time, providing them with a platform to interact, relax and share any challenges they might face in their homes with their peers.

Over the years this kind of interaction has proved to be beneficial especially for housewives who would otherwise not have a broad platform to share their thoughts and ideas with other women.

In Ward 16, semi-finals were held recently resulting in two teams going forward to compete in the final against teams from the other wards.

Participants are divided into two age groups, those under 35 years and those above.

MP’S TROPHY

The MP’s Trophy is also a netball tournament for wards in the Dangamvura-Chikanga constituency (ten wards).

Matches are currently ongoing in ward 16 and, as in the Mayor’s trophy, participants are divided into two age groups: under 35 and over 35.

The aim of the MP’s trophy is to empower women through sport.

The date for the final is yet to be announced.
